Donation of 20,000 teak seedlings by the Government of Edo State to the «1 Million Trees for Peace» project Following a commitment early in 2011, at a ceremony on the 5th of June, the Honourable Commissioner of Environment of Edo State, Prince Clem Agba, formally handed over 20,000 seedlings to the Project Manager, who thanked the Government for their generosity. He also thanked the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adam Oshiomole, for deploying forest guards to police the plantations and said he was delighted with their work, and also the supervisory role the Ministry of Environment was playing in the «1 Million Trees for Peace» project.
The Governor of Edo State (represented by the Deputy Governor) commended ABSWP for taking the lead in re-forestation in the State, as a result of which the State Government was inaugurating a «One man, one tree» project. He called on other non-governmental organizations to follow the fine example shown by ABSWP and support the President of ABSWP, Bernadette Strebel, in her dream of re-forestation in Nigeria to bring Harmony and Peace both in Nigeria and in the World. At a press briefing, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment said that ABSWP was fully supporting the re-forestation programmes of the Edo State Government. In recent years, ABSWP had planted 14,000 trees and this year would be planting at least 16,000 trees, bringing the total to at least 30,000. He also said that ABSWP was generating employment, especially in the rural areas, and reducing the drift of men from the country to the towns. He called on other organizations to emulate the excellent work of ABSWP.
