Targeted afforestation Overall, Nigeria has lost around 84 percent of its original forest area and around 90 percent of its wet forest areas over time. Only about 12 percent of the total land area is now covered by forest. Since trees are one of the most important pillars in the ecosystem, targeted reforestation is urgently needed. This is exactly where the “Trees for Peace” project focuses.
In 2008, the Nigerian government contractually provided the Association Bernadette Strebel World Peace with 400 hectares of land for 1 million peace trees, which are used for reforestation and utilization of the soil and provide the financial basis for further projects.
